About this class
This course meets 2 times per class session. Please check the Agenda below for the dates included in each session. By purchasing a ticket, you are committing to attend all meetings included in that session. The title of the Agenda section will indicate which ticket to purchase for that session.
In this class, you will learn how to design custom PCBs for their electronics projects. Custom PCBs can allow you to test more complicated projects or scale an existing prototypes for larger project.
The class will teach you the basic of designing with KiCad, an open source PCB design tool. It will cover making electrical schematics, making PCB layouts, and generating output files for fabrication.
What you’ll learn
- Students will learn how PCBs are physically constructed and designed.
- They will learn how to use KiCad to design a PCB, how to generate production files suitable for external manufacture or for use in the Asylum's PCB mill.
- The end result will be a set of design files that the student can use to make a PCB.
- The students can take away an example PCB with the corresponding design files and components.
What to bring
Pen and paper for taking notes.
An idea of an electronics project if they have one.
Prerequisites
Helpful to have a understanding of basic electronics, but not nessecary!
Instructor: Phil Knodle
Philip Knodle is a artist and engineer based at Artisans Asylum. He builds installations using electrical and mechanical components to interrogate the tension between the physical and digital words.
