About this class
This introductory course is for anyone who wants to get into 3D printing, a type of additive manufacturing. Specifically, you will learn how to use the Prusa printers in the Digifab lab, a type of fused deposition modeling printer. By the end of the class, you'll learn about designing parts for 3D printing, slicing parts, and exporting GCode to the printers so they know where to move. The class will also include testing on the machines so that you can start printing whatever you like within the constraints of these machines.
- This class includes Tool Testing on the following:
Standard FDM printers, which include: the Prusa Mk3 (3), Creality Ender 3S1 (2), Creality Ender 3 Max, Creality Ender 5 Plus, Creality K1, and Bambu P1P.
What you’ll learn
- Introduction to 3d printing/additive manufacturings and when to use it
- *Brief* introduction to 3d modeling and designing for fused deposition modeling
- Overview of where to find shape files, how to slice them, Gcode, and printer settings
- If time allows, brief discussion of other 3d printing techniques like stereolithography or metal 3d printing
- By the end of the class, you will be able to take your own 3d print home.
Who it’s for
Students who want to bring their own 3d model (.stl) on USB thumb drive or download one during the class. You can get an .STL file of a small object downloaded from Thingiverse (thingiverse.com)! Students must be 12 years old or older. All students under 18 years old must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.
Ticket includes
- 3d printer filament (PLA)
- Your own 3D print
- Access to A2's Digital Fabrication & Laser Shopa nd tools for the duration of the session.
Instructor: Kevin Naber (He/Him)
Kevin has 6 years experience in 3d printing and is a lifelong tinkerer. He delights in using art and technology for functional uses and personal expression. Detail and strength are properties of 3d printing which he enjoys finding the best balance and sharing the knowledge gained from such experiences.
